The Registry of Sculptures and Monuments

The Policy Studies Organization announces the opening of a major site in late 2023 to be known as The Registry of Sculptures and Monuments, associated with its growing publishing of  sculpture journals and books.

Each sculpture or monument that participates will have a site specific to it.  Contributors will be encouraged to place information such as dedication programs, articles, correspondence, information about the sculpture. The sites will credit the societies and artists submitting and there is no charge.

If initially such material is sparse or unavailable, nevertheless the site will have relevant material such as discussion of the present dialogues about aptness of public sculpture so that there is material for each sculpture registered from the very start.  Of course, illustrations will be most welcome.

If there is a lengthy booklet or book that is relevant, it can be considered in the PSO’s Westphalia Press Library of Sculpture at https://westphaliapress.org/sculpture-library/

This includes titlers which may be suitable for curriculum.

The contributors will receive dignified bronze or steel looking stickers that can be placed near to each sculpture or monument  and that will not harm any surface and which will unobtrusively encourage cell phone and computer access to the respective Registry entries.  These might be placed on the back of pedestals or on nearby posts: in other words, emphatically not at all interfering with the sculpture or environs, but with a substantial but small look, with the emphasis on unobtrusive placement. The listing of the sites also will be promoted with local historical societies, university art departments, chambers of commerce and especially in the bulletins and sites of libraries.

There are an estimated 600,000 or more sculptures and monuments that might be eligible for this service, so it is clearly a long term project that will integrate the various activities of the PSO journal, book publishing, and conferences.

Further information will be forthcoming, and comments and suggestions are most warmly welcome. They can be addressed to the Executive Director of the PSO, Daniel Gutierrez, at dgutierrezs@ipsonet.org
