China Policy Journal

Call for Papers


We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the upcoming issues of the China
Policy Journal. We invite three types of submissions:

  1. Original Research Papers: These should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words
    and provide rigorous empirical analyses on policy-related topics in China.
  2. Review Articles: These should be 6,000 to 9,000 words and offer a
    comprehensive review of a policy theory or policy topic, preferably within the
    realm of China policy studies.
  3. Short Articles: These should be 3,000 to 5,000 words and can take the form
    of either a research note or a perspective piece. A research note presents a
    novel theory, argument, or methodology and its application. A perspective
    piece proposes future directions for an emerging research area and its agenda,
    or explores a future trend in the field of policy studies, such as the rise of
    international collaboration.
    We welcome papers on any topic related to policy or China issues. Suggested topics
    include but are not limited to:
  4. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Future Policies
  5. Climate Change: Mitigation, Adaptation, and Policy
  6. Post-COVID Public Health and Policy Interventions
  7. Policies for an Ageing Population and the Silver Economy
  8. Urban-Rural Policy Dynamics in China
  9. Inclusive Governance and AI-Driven Equity
  10. Advances in China’s Policy Making Research
  11. Administrative Burdens in China’s Public Policy
  12. Experimental Governance in China
  13. Smart Cities: Technology and Policy Integration
  14. E-Government and Bridging the Digital Divide
  15. China’s Opening Policy Reassessed in Post-COVID Era
  16. Behavioral Insights in Public Policy: Innovations and Challenges
  17. AI in Policy Formulation and Decision-Making
  18. Regulation of AI Technologies
    Submission Guidelines:
  • Submission Process: All submissions should be sent to: cpj@bnu.edu.cn.
  • Title page: The title page should include a list of the full names of the authors
    and each author’s institutional affiliations where the work was conducted, with
    a footnote for the author’s present address if different from where the work
    was conducted, and acknowledgments.
  • Abstract and Keywords: Please include an abstract of no more than 200
    words and provide 3-5 keywords.
  • Manuscript Preparation: Your manuscript should be submitted as an editable
    file, including text, figures, and tables. Figures and tables should include
    legends and be placed within the text rather than at the end of the manuscript.
    Figures should be in highest resolution possible.
  • Formatting: The journal uses Chicago reference style.
  • Supporting Information: Supporting information should be submitted in
    separate files.

    About China Policy Journal:
    China Policy Journal (CPJ) is an international peer-reviewed journal devoted to
    rigorous policy research and analysis with an emphasis on contemporary policy issues
    in Greater China under the aegis of the Policy Studies Organization (PSO). The
    journal covers a wide range of topics related to public policy in China. We welcome
    submissions that examine policy formulation, implementation, evaluation, and reform
    across various policy domains such as education, health, environment, development,
    social welfare, sustainability and more. Our journal strives to present a comprehensive
    view of China’s policymaking landscape, encompassing both urban and rural policies,
    as well as national and regional perspectives. The journal also aims to bring together
    high-quality original research that makes a strong theoretical or empirical contribution
    to a better understanding of policy development process as well as the politics of
    policy-making in China. In addition, the Journal strives to be the definitive source for
    insights into Chinese policymaking, advancing the field and encouraging critical
    discussions on public policy challenges locally and globally. The audience for CPJ
    comprises members of the academic community, as well as members of the policy
    community, including government officials, NGOs and advocacy groups, research
    institutes and policy analysts. CPJ is co-edited by the School of Government, Beijing
    Normal University, and Chinese Policy Scholar Group.
